Summer Programme

2015-07-23 11_06_29-info_sheets_summer_01JUN.pdf - Adobe ReaderUNIDO’s contribution to the world stock of industrial development knowledge is the result of a complex process of accumulation of both theoretical and practical knowledge and expertise. Through their participation in technical cooperation projects, policy advice, research and field operations, UNIDO staff have amassed a wealth of expertise and knowledge in their respective fields.

Technical discussions, inter-divisional and multidisciplinary activities and projects have contributed to UNIDO’s collective learning, which has been widely disseminated through publications and capacity building efforts. In this context it is important not only to develop the capacities of present governmental officials and policy makers, but also to work with national stakeholders in academia, the private sector and non-governmental organizations. Capacity building efforts must necessarily be long-term and give special attention to young professionals and students.

Summer Courses are intended to enhance the capacity of young professionals through high-level, research based, innovative programmes in selected thematic areas related to inclusive and sustainable industrial development. The main audiences for the programmes are current or aspiring policy makers, practitioners, researchers, academics and media representatives involved in the design and management of industrial development processes. Our summer courses offer a dynamic mix of traditional and innovative teaching methods and are supported by e-learning tools.

Courses are divided into a distance e-learning and a residential phase. The e-learning part lasts about one month. It includes a number of readings, facilitated online discussions, case studies and an online test, to ensure that participants share common knowledge in the course area. The two-week residential part consists of a series of plenary sessions providing a lively combination of lectures and webinars, exercises and simulations, group work, presentations, field trips and public lectures.

Course faculty is selected based on academic excellence and practical experience. Close co-operation with senior UNIDO practitioners provides a unique opportunity to bring together practical experience accumulated through technical co-operation projects implemented by UNIDO and its partners across the world, and state-of-the-art theoretical knowledge related to inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
