New postgraduate Master Program at the University of Vienna – Global Political Economy of Sustainable Development
We are pleased to announce our new postgraduate Master Program “Global Political Economy of Sustainable Development”. Starting in October 2017, the interdisciplinary Master Program is offered by the University of Vienna in cooperation with the Austrian Foundation for Development Research (ÖFSE) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The language of instruction is English. Participants who complete this Master’s Program receive the academic degree “Master of Science (MSc).
With the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the concept of sustainable development will become the guiding framework for global development for the next decades. Based in the UN City Vienna, the Master Program aims at imparting policy-oriented knowledge and applied methods for design of sustainability policies on national and international level. The program has an interdisciplinary orientation and is based on a plural understanding of scientific approaches with respect to globalization and sustainability.
Qualification profile and job opportunities
A solid but broad-based education in all dimensions of sustainable development and the opportunity to specialize in a variety of thematic areas prepare graduates to pursue careers in different professional fields, in particular in international organizations, government institutions, research organizations and NGOs. The graduates will have acquired strong analytical and conceptual skills that enable them to identify framework conditions for sustainable development and to develop policies in order to address social, ecological and economic problems in different contexts.

The opening event of the Master Program with prominent international speakers, amongst others Klaus Töpfer (former UNEP Executive Director) und Jayati Ghosh (Professor of Economics at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi), takes place on 12 October 2017.
