The UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development works with policymakers, technical experts, industrial development practitioners, researchers, academics and other stakeholders as well as with learning institutions such as universities or local training institutions to foster the analytical, technical and networking skills that support effective industrial policy formulation and implementation. The Institute designs and delivers learning and research programmes that create opportunities for stakeholders to enhance the individual skills and acquire, share and apply state-of-the-art knowledge and experience.
The following mandated tasks are being developed:
The Executive Programme provides high-level government officials with a unique opportunity to learn first hand from UNIDO practitioners and world class academics in short convenient courses.
The Professional Programme seeks to promote sustainable industrial growth through capacity building to ensure informed and timely policymaking and to strengthen institutions/infrastructures that are part of the enabling environment for effective industrial development.
This programme is intended to enhance the capacity of young professionals through high level, research based, innovative summer courses in selected thematic areas related to sustainable industrial development. The main audiences for the programme are current or aspiring policy makers, practitioners, researchers, academics and media representatives involved in the design and management of industrial development processes. Our summer courses offer a dynamic mix of traditional and innovative teaching methods and are supported by e-learning tools.
The Institute supports PhD research that creates new knowledge, proposes innovative solutions and provides the theoretical background for new approaches to industrial development projects and processes. The fellowship scheme is being used by the Institute as a strategic means for building analytical and research capacities and for promoting UNIDO’s experience and best practices in industrial development.
